“Always surround yourself with people who are even more talented and competent than you.”
This wisdom echoes a biblical principle that runs counter to pride but aligns perfectly with God’s design for growth. Scripture reminds us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17). God never intended for us to grow in isolation. He places people around us to stretch our faith, refine our character, and sharpen our gifts.
Surrounding yourself with those who are strong does not diminish your value. Instead, it reveals humility and trust in God’s process. Moses needed Aaron. Paul needed Barnabas. Even Jesus surrounded Himself with disciples, inviting them into ministry and growth. When we choose community wisely, we invite God’s wisdom into our daily lives.
Talented and faithful people challenge us to step higher, serve better, and rely more fully on the Lord. They remind us that success in God’s Kingdom is not about competition, but cooperation. Growth happens when we are willing to learn, listen, and walk alongside others who are pursuing Christ wholeheartedly.
Ask yourself today: who is sharpening my faith? Who encourages me to grow stronger in Christ? God often uses people to accomplish His purpose in us.
