Friendship at Its Highest Form

Apr 8, 2026 | Relationships | Proverbs 27:17

God designed us for relationships, and one of His greatest gifts is the presence of faithful friends who encourage us to grow. A true friend does more than simply share life’s moments—they help shape who we become. Through their words, actions, and example, they gently point us toward what is right, good, and honoring to God.

Scripture reminds us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17, BSB). Godly friendships refine us. They challenge us when we drift, encourage us when we feel weak, and celebrate the work God is doing in our lives. These relationships are not always easy, but they are deeply valuable because they draw us closer to Christ.

It is also worth asking: are we that kind of friend to others? Do our words lift people higher? Do we inspire faith, integrity, and love in those around us? God calls us not only to receive encouragement, but to give it generously.

Take time today to thank God for the friends who have helped you grow. Then look for ways to be that same source of strength and encouragement to someone else.

Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for the gift of godly friendships. Help me to both receive and give encouragement that draws others closer to You.
