The central mark of a maturing Christian is not how much Scripture we know, how long we have attended church, or how busy we stay in ministry. True spiritual growth is revealed in love—love that increasingly looks like the love of Christ.
Jesus set the standard clearly: “By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35, BSB). Christ’s love is patient with weakness, compassionate toward failure, and sacrificial even when it costs. As we grow in Him, that love reshapes how we respond to others. We listen more carefully. We forgive more quickly. We choose grace over judgment.
The same is true for a congregation. A maturing church is marked by unity, humility, and a deep concern for people inside and outside its walls. Programs may change and seasons may shift, but love remains the clearest evidence of spiritual health.
Today, consider where God may be inviting you to grow in Christlike love. Is there someone you need to forgive, encourage, or serve? Growth often begins with small, obedient steps that reflect His heart.
Prayer:
Lord, help me grow in a love that reflects Jesus in my words, attitudes, and actions today. Shape my heart to love others as You have loved me, for Your glory. Amen.
