Growth Doesn’t Happen on Cruise Control

May 17, 2026 | Hard Times | James 1:2–3

Growth rarely happens in moments of ease. It is often shaped in the unexpected turns, the delays, and the challenges we would never choose for ourselves. Much like a driver becomes skilled by navigating curves, hills, and changing conditions, our faith is strengthened when life does not go as planned.

Scripture reminds us of this truth: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance” (James 1:2–3, BSB). God uses life’s winding roads to deepen our trust in Him. In seasons of difficulty, we learn to rely not on our own understanding, but on His guidance and provision.

When everything feels smooth, it is easy to drift into comfort and self-reliance. But in the challenges, we discover God’s faithfulness in a more personal and powerful way. He is present in every turn, shaping our character, strengthening our endurance, and drawing us closer to Him.

If you are facing a difficult stretch today, take heart. God is not wasting this moment. He is forming something in you that could not be developed any other way.

Prayer:
Lord, help me trust You in every twist and turn. Shape my faith through life’s challenges and lead me closer to You each day.
