Mercy Has a Secret Strength

Feb 18, 2026 | Spiritual Growth

Mercy does not begin with our effort; it begins with God’s love. The quote, “The ground of mercy is love, and the working of mercy is our keeping in love,” reminds us that mercy flows from a deep, abiding relationship with the Father. God does not show mercy reluctantly. He extends it generously because He is love.

Scripture tells us, “Because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses” (Ephesians 2:4–5). Mercy is rooted in who God is, not in what we deserve. When we receive that mercy, it changes us from the inside out.

Yet mercy is not meant to stop with us. The working of mercy is revealed as we choose to remain in God’s love each day. Jesus said, “Remain in My love” (John 15:9). As we stay close to Him through prayer, Scripture, and obedience, His mercy overflows into how we treat others—with patience, compassion, forgiveness, and grace.

Keeping ourselves in love means refusing bitterness, choosing humility, and remembering how much we have been forgiven. Mercy becomes visible when love shapes our words, attitudes, and actions.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your great love and rich mercy toward me. Help me remain in Your love today, so Your mercy flows through my life to others. Amen.
