“We live by the assumption that what’s good for us is good for the world. And this is based on the even flimsier assumption that we could know with any certainty what’s good for us.” This quote gently exposes a common human tendency: trusting our own judgment above God’s wisdom. Scripture cautions us, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12, BSB). What feels right in the moment is not always what is right in the long run.
Our perspective is limited, shaped by emotions, desires, and incomplete understanding. God’s perspective, however, is eternal and perfectly aligned with truth and love. When we assume we know what is best—for ourselves or others—we risk acting apart from His guidance. Yet God invites us to surrender that burden. He promises to lead us when we trust Him more than our own insight. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5, BSB).
True wisdom begins with humility—acknowledging that God sees what we cannot. As we submit our plans, opinions, and decisions to Him, He shapes our lives for good and uses us as instruments of blessing in the world.
Prayer for today:
Lord, help me trust Your wisdom above my own. Guide my choices so they reflect Your will and bring glory to You. Amen.
