There is a holy tension in following Christ. Jesus calls His disciples to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him (Luke 9:23). That kind of surrender feels costly. It means releasing control, laying down personal ambition, and trusting God with outcomes we cannot see. From the outside, it can look like loss.
Yet Scripture shows us a deeper reality. When we loosen our grip on what we think we need, we make room for what God knows we need. The apostle Paul understood this well. He wrote, “But whatever was gain to me I count as loss for the sake of Christ” (Philippians 3:7 BSB). What he surrendered in status and comfort, he gained in intimacy with Christ, eternal purpose, and unshakable hope.
God does not overlook sacrifice. He transforms it. What we place in His hands is never wasted. We may lose comfort, applause, or certainty—but we gain peace, strength, and a treasure that cannot fade. In God’s economy, surrender is not defeat; it is the doorway to fullness of life.
When we risk everything for Him, we discover that He is everything.
Prayer: Father, give me courage to trust You with all I have and all I am. Help me to see that true life is found not in holding on, but in surrendering fully to You. Amen.
