You Don’t Need Many—Just the Real Ones

Mar 22, 2026 | Relationships | Proverbs 17:17

Hard seasons often reveal the true strength of the relationships in our lives. When circumstances are difficult—whether financial struggles, illness, disappointment, or loss—the presence of faithful friends can become one of God’s greatest gifts. Their encouragement, prayers, and simple presence remind us that we are not walking through hardship alone.

Scripture highlights the value of this kind of friendship. “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity” (Proverbs 17:17, BSB). God often works through people to bring comfort and support during life’s most challenging moments. A phone call, a kind word, or a willingness to listen can become a powerful expression of His love.

True friends reflect Christ’s heart. They stand beside us when life feels uncertain and remind us of God’s promises when our own faith feels weak. In these moments, friendship becomes more than companionship—it becomes a refuge.

At the same time, believers are called to be that refuge for others. As we grow in Christ, we learn to carry one another’s burdens, offering compassion, prayer, and hope. In doing so, we become instruments of God’s grace in the lives of those around us.

Prayer for today:
Lord, thank You for the friends You place in my life. Help me both receive and offer encouragement so that others may experience Your love and faithfulness. Amen.
