God designed your heart with a holy capacity. Deep within every person is a longing to give and receive love. That longing is not weakness; it is design. From the very beginning, you were created in the image of a loving God, and His nature is reflected in you.
Scripture tells us, “We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19, BSB). Love is not something we manufacture; it is something we were made to express. When our affection is centered on temporary things—success, approval, possessions, or even other people—we often feel restless. These good gifts cannot carry the full weight of our hearts.
Jesus reminds us of the proper order: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37, BSB). When our first and greatest love is Him, every other love finds its right place. Loving God anchors us. Loving others reflects Him.
Today, consider what holds the deepest affection of your heart. Whatever you love most will shape your thoughts, guide your decisions, and influence your future. When your soul rests in the love of Christ, it flourishes as it was always meant to.
Prayer for today:
Father, draw my heart back to You as my first love. Teach me to love You fully and to love others from the overflow of Your grace.
